    MO-CASE
    Administrator Mentoring Program (AMP)
    For New Special Education Directors

MO-CASE seeks to continuously increase and improve services to its members and supporters.  The MO-CASE Board especially understands the challenges of new special education administrators as they assume important leadership responsibilities within their school districts.  In accordance with this effort and understanding, MO-CASE partnered with DESE in August of 2009 to manage the AMP program for new special education directors.

Beginning September 1, 2009, new special education administrators seeking a mentor will register for the AMP Program through MO-CASE.

Once registered, MO-CASE will then pair the new special education administrator with a veteran special education administrator as a mentor.  (Note: If the new administrator wishes to request a specific mentor, s/he should specify their information in the section provided on the registration form. MO-CASE will make every effort to place the mentee with their preferred mentor.)

It is the new special education administrator’s responsibility to obtain the school district’s superintendent’s approval before the mentoring program can begin.   Ten (10) hours of contact per year is required between the mentor and the new special education administrator, for a two (2) year period. A log of such time must be completed and turned in to MO-CASE for the mentor to receive the stipend. This contact time must be completed by April 30 of both years.

The new special education administrator should log all contact hours with their mentor in support of certification renewal.  Mentor/mentee roundtables will be provided at the Special Education Administrators Conference in September and the MO-CASE Spring Law Conference. These sessions will focus on timely issues and leadership and should be attended by mentor and mentee.  DESE will provide program support as needed and be provided with mentoring data.

Successful special education administrators in various regions will be asked to serve as mentors.

Cost to the mentee’s school district for new special education administrators to enroll in the AMP program is $350 per year, for a total of $700. Upon receipt and approval of the initial AMP registration form, the mentee’s district will be invoiced for the cost of both years ($700) of the AMP.

If you have any questions regarding the Mentoring Program, please visit our website at http://www.mo-case.org/AMP. Copies of all program documents, forms and instructions will be listed on the website as well. You may also contact our office at 573/644-7804 or by emailing debbi.magnifico@mo-case.org.

The Collaborative Conference is an annual event which is jointly planned and implemented by the Missouri Council of Administrators of Special Education (MO-CASE); the Missouri Council for Exceptional Children (MO-CEC); the Missouri Association of School Psychologists (MASP); and the University of Missouri Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders.  The Missouri Speech-Language and Hearing Association (MSHA) also contributes to the conference.  The intent is to provide an opportunity to learn with colleagues about evidenced based and high leveraged practices within a Multi-tier System of Supports (MTSS) which increase the likelihood of positive educational outcomes for all students, particularly those with special needs.  It is targeted to all who are involved with instruction and intervention from pre-K through grade 12, including teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, specialists, coordinators, principals, and district-level administrators.   NOTE:  REFUNDS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED UNLESS CANCELLATIONS ARE RECEIVED IN WRITING ON OR BEFORE FEBRUARY 16, 2020.  A $25 PROCESSING FEE WILL BE CHARGED FOR ALL REFUNDS.

We have two keynote speakers this year.  Our Day 1 Keynote is Dan St. Romain, who is a national educational consultant who provides staff development and consultative services to educators K-12.  He is passionate about helping individuals shift their perspective on behavior, understanding the best ways to provide support given the challenges posed in today's society.  He regularly presents on topics impacting school climate, brain-based instruction, developmentally appropriate educational practices and presentation skills.

Our Day 2 Keynote is Dr. Tim Lewis, who has been involved in developing school-wide systems of behavioral support for over 20 years.  He has worked directly with school teams around the world, secured over $38 million in grants to support his research and demonstration efforts, and is a frequent contributor to the professional literature examining various aspects of positive behavior.

The MO-CASE Law Conference is held annually, in partnership with the law firm of Thomeczek & Brink, LLC.
