MO-CASE exists to support the field of special education and develop leaders through advocacy, professional learning, and partnerships.
MO-CASE is a subdivision of the Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE), which is a subdivision of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
Purpose:
- Promote professional leadership among special educators.
- Promote the study of issues common to MO-CASE members.
- Communicate information that assists in the development of improved services for exceptional children in Missouri.
- Participate actively in the improvement of special education programs in Missouri
Goals:
- LEADERSHIP: Uphold and direct the future of special education in the state and nation
- ADVOCACY: Impact local, state, and federal policies through advocacy efforts
- SUPPORT: Expand formats for professional learning
- EDUCATION: Provide ongoing support to meet the informational and educational needs of our members
Objectives:
- We will engage MO-CASE members in leadership activities to further the organizational purpose.
- We will provide innovative professional learning to leaders that will increase outcomes for students with disabilities.
- We will increase advocacy and visibility as the leading voice in issues related to students with disabilities.
- We will increase the promotion and support for the professional of special education (teachers, related services, support staff, and leadership).
We provide support and resources to all special education leaders through the following activities:
- Newsletter - MO-CASE publishes a quarterly newsletter that provides information on current events, initiatives, and developments in special education at the state and federal level.
- Conferences - MO-CASE hosts the Special Education Administrators' Conference each fall and we co-sponsor, in conjunction with the Thomeczek Law Firm, the Law Conference/Distinguished Speakers' Series each spring. In addition, MO-CASE offers topical webinar series sessions, such as law, specially designed instruction, etc.
- Charles Cummings Scholarship - Each year, up to five $1,000 scholarships are awarded to selected applicants who are pursuing special education administrator certification or degrees.
